Mission 4 [voice]

[Erza is affected by this, and her thoughts will be in red.]

With all of the new people that were brought here in the past month, has anybody seen any new arrivals claiming to be members of the Fairy Tail guild?

I hope Gerard didn't show up... I still don't know what I would say to him if I met him here...

Also, I'm opening a branch of Fairy Tail here; it will give me something to do with my free time.  And it will help me meet new people, hopefully.  If you have any questions about the work we do, or any jobs that need done, feel free to ask over the journal.  I haven't came up with any sort of reward system yet, seeing as this place has no money, so in the meantime, any tasks you have will be done for free, if I consider them acceptable.  I'm not going to give out where I live just yet; there have been too many murders and kidnappings lately.

A guild? Like in a game?

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what you mean by that, but where I come from, a guild is a group of mages that have decided to work together, more or less.

[identity profile] chasetemptation.livejournal.com 2010-04-27 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I see. So it is kind of the same thing, only it's not just mages - fighters join them too.

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

What do you mean by "The World"? From the way you're saying it, it sounds like the words mean something else to you.

[Voice]

[identity profile] fonon-professor.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Then, if I understand correctly, Fairy Tail is a guild that takes on any sort of odd jobs?

[Voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. As long as it's not illegal, we'll do anything from finding missing objects to capturing criminals.

[Voice]

[identity profile] fonon-professor.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see. That sounds very much like Brave Vesperia's aim, though I hardly see any harm in having two similar guilds.

If there were an emergency in the village, would Fairy Tail offer support to the defense groups or are you not specialized in fighting?

[Voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Brave Vesperia?

We specialize more in fighting; I'm one of the stronger members, though there are many who are stronger still.

[Voice]

[identity profile] fonon-professor.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
... In that case, it's certainly good to know we have another group to count on.

[Voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
So what is this "Blue Vesperia" group like?

[Voice]

[identity profile] fonon-professor.livejournal.com 2010-04-27 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Brave Vesperia. The group was started by a man named Yuri Lowell about a year and a half ago, for the sake of escorting people through dangerous areas or accepting various other requests. They also joined their efforts with the defense groups to protect the villagers, whenever there was a strong need for it. A while ago, the title of Brave Vesperia's leader was passed onto a boy named Karol Capel.

[Voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that does sound a lot like Fairy Tail. Why was the leadership title passed on? Was the original leader brought back home?

[Voice]

[identity profile] fonon-professor.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard any news of Yuri being sent home. However, Karol Capel was the original leader of Brave Vesperia in their home world, which is why he took over when he arrived here.

[Voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that makes sense. I suppose I'd be the acting leader now, but if Master Makarov arrives, I'd give the title back to him without question. That concept seems similar.

[Voice]

[identity profile] fonon-professor.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. I suppose you'll be recruiting villagers to your ranks, then? Or will you be handling most requests solo?

[Voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on what kind of a response I get, I suppose. If I am going to recruit, it isn't a strenuous process. Basically, as long as they know magic, they fill out a membership card, and their reputation is good, they're in. Normally, we also put a magical stamp on them that can be removed if they choose to leave the guild, but I haven't been able to find those here, so I'll have to recruit without them.

[Voice]

[identity profile] fonon-professor.livejournal.com 2010-04-29 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Then, I hope to hear some good things about Fairy Tail in the future.

[identity profile] antisilent.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Couldn't you return favors with favors?

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as I know, I'm the only one from my guild here, and if I have anything that needs done, I'd prefer to do it myself rather than call in favors.

[identity profile] antisilent.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That's an admirable sentiment.

Since we're already on the topic, might as well start with what's Fairy Tail?

Never can tell with pirate crews and bounty hunters. They picked the strangest names.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
We're a guild of mages that can be hired for any legal tasks, such as finding lost items or hunting down criminals.

...And there is a reason behind the guild's name, you know. It has to do with our shared enjoyment of adventures and discovering the unknown.

Re: [voice]

[personal profile] justicereigns 2010-04-28 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Right. And I do mean them. On both accounts.

Tch. Possibly not, but they are the type to declare war on the World Government, punch a tenryuubito which is enough to almost get a whole island destroyed, and bust into Impel Down: a giant prison and break out a slew of prisoners including one ex-shichibukai they helped defeat in the first place. Innocent my ass.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not familiar with some of those terms you just mentioned. What is a Tenryuubito, or a Shichibukai?

Re: [voice]

[personal profile] justicereigns 2010-04-28 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Damn. Looks like I'll have to explain. Even if I didn't, this though thing would do it for me.

Tenryuubito are a special type of royalty in my world. No one holds them any particular love, but the government owes them ... something, so attacking one calls in an admiral to get rid of the idiot foolish enough to do something that insane.

A shichibukai is a legalized pirate, the government tries to use them to keep other pirates in check with their strength. It's pure idiocy since they all only follow their own agenda, just biding their time to turn on the government when possible.

And exactly. The Straw-Hats are just that insane. The fact that they've dealt with shichibukai and admirals an still managed to surprise only proves how dangerous they are.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are the Tenryuubito disliked by everyone but the government?

And why would the government hire criminals to work for them, if they're planning on betraying the government in the first place?
justicereigns: (I'm listening)

Re: [voice]

[personal profile] justicereigns 2010-04-29 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Because they do whatever they want. Some people are jealous, some people just hate them. Same reasons people tend to hate the pirate emperors without meeting them.

Because the idiots up the chain of command are arrogant jackasses who think they can control them with money, and they don't listen to common sense.

And like it or not, they're desperate. Not enough marines, too many pirates, and Dragon's Revolution is starting to corner them into a wall.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Your world sounds fairly chaotic. I suppose that's where the government is supposed to come in, but if they've turned to hiring pirates and are dealing with a revolution, they don't sound overly concerned with the welfare of anyone else.
justicereigns: (Soldier)

[voice]

[personal profile] justicereigns 2010-05-01 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Smart girl.

Correct. By no means is the World Government doing their job perfectly, nor even the way they should be necessarily. But there isn't anyone else to deal with the pirates. Even when the countries retain enough autonomy to have their own armies, pirates recognize no bounds. They sail on oceans un-policed by individual countries and that only leaves the marines to deal with them. Dragon's Revolution is specifically trying to overthrow the World Government so they have no choice, but to deal with that on top of the pirates.

[identity profile] sun-trumpet.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Fairy... Tail?

Isn't that a type of story?

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it is, but not the way that we spell it. For my guild, "tail" is spelled like the part of an animal; we picked the name because whether fairies have tails, or even exist, is a mystery, as no one has seen them up close before. We all live for that sense of mystery and adventure, which is why we work together.

[identity profile] sun-trumpet.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a fairy and fairies don't have tails. That's got to be the stupidest thing ever.

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-26 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you don't, but they could where I come from. As well, it's more about the meaning behind the name than the name itself. I'd prefer it if you didn't insult the name of my guild.

[identity profile] sun-trumpet.livejournal.com 2010-04-27 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Fine, fine, no need to get all worked up about it.

Fairy Tail, Erza?

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's the name of my guild back home. We're a large group of mages, almost like an extended family, that work together and share a love of adventure. It's sort of like mercenary work, though we only accept missions that are legal.

[voice]

[identity profile] flamesofkaraya.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it like the defense groups around here then?

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
So I've heard. It may seem pointless to have multiple groups that have the same basic purpose, but I'd prefer it if we had our own separate identity, and I'm sure that the other members of my guild would agree.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-04-30 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[/facepalm. I don't think Erza's found out about the experiment yet.]

What do you mean by that?

[voice]

[identity profile] flamesofkaraya.livejournal.com 2010-05-01 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Your thoughts are showing. [Poor Erza.]

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-03 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? ...Well, that's inconvenient.

Back home, our guild has a reputation for causing a lot of property damage on our missions; my group in particular seems to cause the most, no matter how hard I try to get them under control. It seems like even the simplest of missions winds up with buildings being destroyed when I'm working with those idiots.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-04 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't matter as much here, seeing as rooms and buildings are re-built over time. There's probably nothing to worry about, seeing as Natsu isn't here.

[voice]

[identity profile] flamesofkaraya.livejournal.com 2010-05-04 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Is he the one destroying things?

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-05 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[She sighs.] Yes, usually. If his solution to a problem isn't punching its source, it's lighting the source on fire with magic. I can keep him under control, though. [And by that, she means that she's beaten him up enough times that he's too terrified to act when she's around.]

[voice]

[identity profile] flamesofkaraya.livejournal.com 2010-05-06 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
How is that even supposed to be helpful? [This guild is so strange. D:]

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-09 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems like every single mission we go on devolves into one-on-one combat with powerful magic users. With so many mages up for hire in my world, even missions like bringing a rare book back to its rightful owner often turn violent.

[voice]

[identity profile] flamesofkaraya.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds pretty dangerous. That always happens?

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-10 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Mainly just the missions that Natsu takes. It's probably just a coincidence, anyways - there are members that I'm more concerned about, and their missions have been completed without incidents like that.

[voice]

[identity profile] flamesofkaraya.livejournal.com 2010-05-11 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
So it's just him, huh? I'm surprised you guys don't get into more trouble.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the council does reprimand us from time to time, but those are mostly formalities. Plus, we've saved the country, if not the world, enough times that they're willing to overlook most of our actions.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-16 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They were a group of mages who oversaw all of the legal guilds in the country. After two of their members were exposed as people who wanted to revive a powerful dark wizard, the council was disbanded and is in the process of being restructured. I can't say I agree with all of their decisions, but we have to follow them or risk losing our status as a legal guild.

[voice]

[identity profile] flamesofkaraya.livejournal.com 2010-05-17 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Huh.] You can't just make guilds on your own?

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2010-05-17 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Any mage's guild has to at least follow the rules of the council and get their approval; otherwise, they become Dark Guilds and are not allowed to take most kinds of missions. Becoming a Dark Guild puts a serious mark on one's reputation.

[voice]

[identity profile] flamesofkaraya.livejournal.com 2010-05-17 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I see. I didn't think they would require so many rules too.

I thought you wanted me to be more personal, less serious, when talking to the general public like that. What did you actually mean?

I haven't done non-S-Rank jobs in years, so my memory might not be the best in regards to anything that doesn't involve killing monsters. The jobs that most guild members can take usually involve finding lost objects, or taking jobs in emergencies.
