Mission 15 [voice]

[Erza has been trying to find a hobby other than beating people up, and with the sheer amount of literature here from so many cultures, she's decided to take up reading in her spare time. However, after reading through a bunch of really cheesy romance novels and a few Shakespeare plays, she can't come up with any other books to read.]

Does anybody have any books that they would recommend?

Did you have any particular genre in mind?

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Anything will do, really; I'm just looking for some variety.

You wouldn't mind if I just pulled a handful off of the shelves at random and set them aside for you to pick up, then? I could do it right now if that's acceptable.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds good. Where would you want me to pick them up?

[voice]

[identity profile] littlestdevil.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a little table near the front desk, I'll be waiting there with them.

[When Erza comes to get them: feel free to decide what Koakuma picked out if you want, otherwise it's simply a little of everything with Koa not being particular about what she pulled from the shelves; mystery, action, a biography or two, some just plain weird stuff, and who knows what else.]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
((OoC: I took some liberties with the books in the list; I assume they'd get a wide variety, including stuff that very few people would read and stuff that might contain canon spoilers if said canons were here. It would be hard to avoid that last one, after all.))

[Erza arrives a few minutes later, notices the pile of books, and looks through them. Let's see here... The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers... Cujo... The Notebook... And Then There Were None... and then things start to get strange. The novelization of the movie 13 Going On 30, a book about dinosaurs, a collection of Nostradamus prophecies, a book about knitting with dog hair, The Worst Baby Name Book Ever, (yes, those last two exist) and a biography on William Shatner, among others.

Erza generally puts a lot of thought into her decisions, though, so she expects others to do the same. Assuming that these were picked out for a reason, she takes them all over to the front desk.]

[Did someone say books. Estelle is so here.]

Do you have a favorite genre?

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[She does have one, but she'd never admit it, and she has beaten up people who reveal that she likes it.]

...I think I'm in the mood for trying something new, actually. Something with plenty of action, if possible.
inabook: (Ponder)

[personal profile] inabook 2011-01-07 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there's plenty to chose from then... If you stop by the library, I could gather a few different ones for you to look through.

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. I'll be there shortly. [She had already been there earlier, but given her general request, she has a feeling that she'll be going back and forth quite often over the course of the day.]

[Ping! Books!!]

Do you also enjoy reading?

['Also'? Apparently whoever's writing does.]

[Written]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, when I can find the time. What sort of books do you like to read?

Re: [Written]

[identity profile] no-use-running.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything. Textbooks for school, mostly. And, I sort of like crime fiction.

[Perhaps a surprising choice, but she's not admitting the secret tendency to romance novels. Ever.]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds like it could be interesting. Read any good crime novels lately?

[She likes exciting things vicariously!]

A few. I can let you borrow them, if you want. Everything is shared anyway.

[Written]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Sure. Where do you live?

[And remembering the fairly large pile sitting on a desk by her bed...] ...On second thought, I'll probably have to pick them up another day. I've already got a significant number of books from the library, and I'd prefer to finish them before I start on something new. Plus, I'd hate to hold onto your books for too long.

That's alright. We can do it another time.

I have some murder mysteries if you'd like to read them.

[voice]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. Any ones in particular that you had in mind?

((OoC: Sorry I took so long; it just kind of slipped my mind, and I'll try not to do that.))

[voice]

[identity profile] redheaded-rock.livejournal.com 2011-01-20 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I saw my dad's whole Derek Storm series in the library not long ago. If nothing else, you can pick up the first one and see what you think.

[[ooc;; no worries. Lord knows it happens to me sometimes, too.]]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-23 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Any tips? One of my friends back home is writing a book, and anything would help if she shows up or I go home.

I can't vouch for it, since I'm not a writer myself, but Dad says that even if you think it's all coming out wrong, you need to keep writing anyway. Get it down first, revise later.

What's your favorite genre?

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm looking for mystery and fantasy; I've got a lot of good recommendations for those lately.
justicereigns: (Thinking)

[personal profile] justicereigns 2011-01-20 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? I'll take them. I swear I feel like I finished out the mystery section in the library.

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Let me think... "The Maltese Falcon", "Double Indemnity", "And Then There Were None", "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" [she just noticed it in the library and thought it sounded like a good mystery story, but it's actually not (she's just going by the title here)] and a lot of books by this Arthur Conan Doyle person. Any of those sound familiar?
justicereigns: (grinning justice)

[personal profile] justicereigns 2011-01-21 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
All of them -- except Benjamin Button. The Agatha Christie ones were pretty good. And Sam Spade is an interesting character. I tried some called "The Three Investigators," but there were a lot of references I didn't get. The first three were pretty interesting, but seemed a bit for more kids I think.

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-01-24 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Still, I might as well give them a shot. If there are references I don't get, I'm sure someone can explain them to me. Besides, learning about all these new cultures is certainly interesting.

[personal profile] justicereigns 2011-01-24 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Same thing I was thinking.

Besides, sometimes you'd just be surprised how much there was in common.
