Mission 18 [action]

[Early in the morning, around the time that the sun starts to rise, Erza can be seen heading for the beach with a cart trailing behind her.  On the cart is a large quantity of meat, along with a good-sized number of dead insects.  She's carrying a ridiculously large fishing rod over her shoulder, much larger than what would be necessary to catch a regular fish.  The line is closer to a steel cable in thickness than a normal fishing line - she's greatly overestimating both the size and ferocity of Luceti's fish.  Thankfully, she brought a smaller back-up fishing rod just in case.  Also, a harpoon.  She likes to be prepared for anything.

Once she makes it to the beach, she'll spend most of the daylight hours there, getting increasingly frustrated and much easier to bother as a result.  Fishing is frustrating normally, and when one expects a much larger catch than what one gets, it's even worse.]

[Snufkin, still on a quest to find the so-called barrier around this world, is taking the long and exploratory way 'round. And that includes a trip to the seaside.

He's got a fishing pole of his own-- but is THAT what yours is supposed to be?]

Golly.

What're you trying to catch?

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-05-31 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever I can find. This is a little small compared to what I generally use back home, but it'll have to do. [She does use a normal-sized fishing rod back home as well, but that's mainly to get fish for Happy. The larger fishing rod is for when she's on missions, since she tends to eat (and cook) quite a lot.]

[identity profile] rathersolitary.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
That's small, you say? [Golly. This reminds him of that time...]

Do you fish here, often?

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-06-04 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No, this is my first time fishing here. The weather seemed right today, and it'll make a nice break from my usual routine.

[identity profile] rathersolitary.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Usual routine? [cautiously, pulling his hat a little further over his head. Why do some of the people here make one so nervous?]

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-06-06 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing out of the ordinary, really. Training, getting something to eat from the restaurants in town, getting new clothes, occasionally patrolling... that sort of thing.

[identity profile] scarletspeedstr.livejournal.com 2011-05-31 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Suddenly there is a red-clad individual with a short attention span and too much time on his hands there, watching her.]

Lemme guess; you're after the fabled white whale?

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-05-31 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a whale in this ocean? ...I think I'm going to need a bigger fishing rod.

[identity profile] scarletspeedstr.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, haven't you heard?

[Okay so he is totally messing with her but still, it's all in good fun, right?]

A giant white whale that eats people if they're not careful. It took this guy's arm and stuff, true story.

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-06-01 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Unfortunately for Erza, she takes almost everything seriously.]

I've never heard of a whale that eats people before... This is exactly the sort of challenge that I need!

[identity profile] scarletspeedstr.livejournal.com 2011-06-03 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely a challenge. There was this one guy who, like, dedicated his whole life to chasing it down. I think it ate him or something, though?

[Hey, it's not like he really remembers how the story went from when he studied it back in high school.]

But it can pull boats down underwater to get at the people and stuff like that. It's pretty dangerous if you ask me, and if you think about it, it's gotta be pretty smart too.

[identity profile] redhairedknight.livejournal.com 2011-06-05 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I suppose it would have to be pretty smart, if it attacked ships. There aren't a whole lot of creatures who do that, from what I've heard.

So what about the person who died chasing it? How did he try to catch it or kill it?

[Michael's not sure of what to think of the... arsenal he's seeing rolling down the beach. But he's thoroughly intrigued by the one pulling it.

He'll stride over after pull in the line he has in the water- not so much the focus of his day as an aside to his getting a little sun.]

I think you might be overestimating the fishing here.

We'll see about that. This wouldn't be enough to catch some of the fish in the waters back home, and I'm sure there are even larger fish that our captors could have put in here. [She reels in her line, only to find an absolutely tiny fish nibbling on the bait. She sets the fish aside, sighing in frustration.] I just happen to be rather unlucky so far, that's all, and my luck can change.

[Well, this should be interesting to watch, at lest?]

I'd think that at the very least, anything the size you're looking for wouldn't be so close to the shore.

I wasn't sure where I'd get a boat. I left early in the morning, and this whole trip was mainly on an impulse anyways. Still, I've heard about some interesting creatures in these waters while I've been here.
