Mission 28 [Voice]

[After a conversation with Cloche, Erza's decided to take some initiative with the drama group and try to find some material for them to work with. Cloche had suggested adapting legends from other worlds, which sounded like it would be entertaining, so she's turned to the journals for suggestions.]

Just a quick question - does anyone have a legend from their world that they'd like to see performed on-stage? I am a member of Luceti's drama club [it feels good just to say that - Erza's always been enthusiastic about acting, even if her stage-fright tends to result in rather disastrous performances], and we're planning to put on a play at some point. I simply figured that we should see what sort of plays people would want to see. [At any rate, it would certainly help to lighten the mood - most of the messages over the journal as of late have been announcements of people being sent home.] Feel free to suggest any legends or stories that you would wish to see - we'll be sure to take them into account.

Oh? It sounds like you're back to normal. I wish I could give you a cool story or two from my world, but I'm pretty short of them.

...Of course I am. [Unfortunately for Erza, she tends to take most things seriously, which makes her easy to tease. Usually, the main thing stopping people from doing so would be the threat of impending violence, but that doesn't work so well through the journals.]

So there aren't any stories about former Magic Kings that you can think of?

I didn't know we had a drama club!

That's understandable - it's still fairly small. Are you interested in that sort of thing?

It certainly seems like fun. But um... I'm not sure if I'd be any good.

It's okay - even if you aren't sure about acting, there are plenty of other jobs. Set design, costumes, music... Or you could come and watch once we've got everything ready - we would appreciate the support.

Oh! Costumes would be great! It would certainly give my boutique some more business. [She chuckles happily.]

Oh? Where is that? [...That probably didn't help matters, but Erza honestly didn't know, and she wanted to help out (plus, getting some new clothes wouldn't hurt).]

It's currently in House 45, since the building was empty. But... I'd like to move out soon and leave the house open to people who want to move in.

Mind if I stop by some time? I'd like to see what you have to offer. [Plus, she's technically doing this for the drama group!]

Most of my stuff is made-to-order, but I'd love to show you a few of my things!

[Giggle.] Maybe I can sit in on one of your rehearsals some time.

Sounds good - whenever you have the time, at least.

I doubt anyone would have a problem with that. We've got a long way to go, though; even if we found a play, I'm not sure if we could make do with four or five actors.

Four or five...? That's so few!

[She suddenly feels bad about hesitating to join.]

Yes - we can probably work with it for smaller plays, but we might not be able to put on some plays that people want. [Here, she smirks.] Though we've got plenty of time to raise interest before we perform, so there's no need to worry. [She's certainly confident, at least - she figures that it will all work out somehow.]

Oh wow. And it's been so long since I've even seen a play. If there's anything I can do...

Helping out with costumes would be more than enough, if you're okay with doing that.

Well, there is always Shakespeare. Anthony and Cleopatra is one of my favorite plays. Macbeth or The Tempest as well. Richard III.

I've read Macbeth before; it was certainly interesting. I haven't read many other plays by Shakespeare, though - I liked Romeo and Juliet, though I wish that he didn't give away the ending right off the start. What are the other ones about?

Anthony and Cleopatra is another tragic romance sort, but better than Romeo and Juliet no matter how you look at it. The Tempest is about a fellow named Prospero who was been exiled since he was overthrown as Duke of Milan, and since then become a sorcerer. He plots to restore his daughter to her rightful place and conjures up a storm to strand his brother on the island, that he might fulfill his plans.

[The last three words are said with a playful sort of gravity.]

I'll have to give those a read-through, then. This Shakespeare person certainly seems to be fairly popular around here, as far as playwrights go. [...That's an understatement.]

And with good reason! Give any one of them a read and you'll understand.

I certainly will. I'm not sure how well some of them might work out, since we don't have many actors yet, but we'll work with what we have if we need to.

Well, thank you for hearing my thoughts, at least. I should dearly love to see Shakespeare again.

Sort of - I've seen it performed, though I've never been involved in a production. [At least, I assume that'd be the case, given that her world seems to be inspired by both Japanese and European culture.]

I know a play we could try re-enacting, then. It's a little long, but it's well worth it. "Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura", I think it was called.

[15 scenes, 5 acts -- he remembers seeing it once while he was a kid; it's what got him into the drama business in the first place.]

I suppose it's possible. [Though hopefully they have enough actors to pull it off.] What's it about?

The play itself was based off of Heike Monogatari--an epic based on the conflict between the Minamoto and Taira clans in the 1180s. It takes place a few years after the end of that war, and involves Minamoto no Yoshitsune's pursuit of three remnants of the Taira clan, all of them generals that are potential threats to the shogunate.

...There's at least ten characters in the play I can name off the top of my head; the one I mentioned is the protagonist. [The same person he'd literally made a persona of. But he isn't telling her that. :|']

Is there a drama club? I was unaware myself. I've done some acting in my world, if you're looking for new recruits.

And you know, a play I've always enjoyed was a Midsummer Night's Dream. The right mix of comedy, mystery, and drama.

"I Want to Be Your Canary" is a play that a lot of people like at home!
