Mission 30 [Video]

[To put it bluntly, the holiday season in Luceti rarely helps Erza's mood. It doesn't take her long to shop for presents, so a lot of her time outside of her standard routine is spent in her apartment. She can hardly believe it's almost been three years since she arrived in Luceti, and even if she had forgotten that some of her friends from the Fairy Tail guild had been taken home in the past two years around Christmas (which she hadn't), the pictures scattered around the room (which generally inspired her) served as a reminder of that fact. For the moment, the pictures aren't helping her mood - the feeling will pass, but for now, she turns to the journal.]

Is anyone up for sparring? I usually feel like my skills get rusty around this time of year, and I find that training with actual people works better than simulations. Or if someone needs help with putting up decorations, getting a tree to their house, or something like that, I'd be willing to offer my assistance. [She might as well offer - she doesn't do smaller-scale missions all that often, but even though the fate of the world doesn't hinge upon their completion (not that it stops her from treating the situation as though that's the case), it still feels good to help people however she can.]

It has been some time, but I am interested in sparring.

Good. Do you want to meet at the barracks or the battle dome?

Barracks are fine. I will be there shortly.

Sounds good. I'm on my way.

[Erza will arrive shortly after Ran Fan does, eager to get started. She'll immediately ex-quip from a winter coat to her standard armour, giving her sword a few practice swings before turning to Ran Fan.]. Are you ready?

[Ran Fan is wearing her normal uniform and is masked. She does nod though, getting into a defensive position with her automailed arm out.]

Of course.

[Taking that as her cue, Erza grips the hilt with both hands and dashes forward. For now, she keeps her swing aimed to Ran Fan's left - she's sticking with a blunt blade to start things off, but this way, if Ran Fan can't dodge it, then blocking with her automail arm is still an option.]

[Ran Fan dodges, moving quickly behind Erza. She does a low sweeping motion with her leg in order to try and trip the other warrior.]

[Instinctively, Erza leaps out of the way, avoiding the sweep. Skidding to a stop, she holds her sword up in a defensive position, prepared for a counter-attack.]

[Ran Fan uses one of her smoke bombs as a cover in order to get behind the other warrior. There was a kunai in her hand, but she had no intentions of using it, but just holding up to the other girl's neck in hopes it would scare her.]

[It would take a lot more than that to scare her, but she does smirk at that.]

Impressive - I'm sure things would have turned out differently if I used my other armours, but not many people can get the drop on me like that.

[She took a step back.]

Other armors? What does that mean?

Mmm...I have been feeling a bit restless myself. What do you have in mind?

I'm adaptable. I generally use swords in combat, but I could use the practice with spears, axes, staffs, or just about any other melee weapon. [She's a bit of a hoarder in that regard, but given how often her weapons break during fights, she basically has to be.]

I do most of my work with short swords as well, though I have been known to use a staff now and then. Shall I meet you somewhere in particular?

I'd prefer the barracks, if that's all right with you. [Though she finds the Battle Dome useful for training on her own, she only knows how to use the basic functions, which makes it harder for her to set it up for sparring with others.]

I shall meet you there in, say, half an hour? It will give me time to find a pair of blunted blades. I would hate to cut a woman I've only just met on accident, after all.

All right. [She could probably take any damage suffered in training, but if he feels it's necessary, she won't argue.] My name is Erza Scarlet, by the way. And you are?

Zevran Arainai, Zev to my friends. It is a pleasure to meet you, my lady Scarlet.

Nice to meet you too, Zevran - I'll see you there.

[Zev flips the journal close and spends a short amount of time rifling through his collection of blades until he finds two short swords of his preferred length and balance that were not yet sharpened. Perfect. Strapping into simple training leathers and setting this on his back, he makes his way to the barracks to await the crimson lady.]

[Erza will already be there, practising on one of the training dummies. It's not a particularly long walk from her apartment to the barracks, and the fact that she can summon weapons or armour to her location helps to speed things up.]

Good - you're here early. [She recognizes him from the picture in the journal - it helps that he's fairly distinctive.] Do you need to warm up first, or are you ready to get started?

It is impolite to keep a lady waiting.

[Even one with swords. Especially one with swords. Zev dips into a quick bow out of habit and rolls out his shoulders, the jog over and time spent testing the weight and balance of these blades would be enough for a quick spar, he should think. He unsheathes his blades and gives them one last experimental twirl before offering her a nod.]

I am ready whenever you are.

I'm up for sparring. I use axes.

Sounds good - I could use the practice with those. [She generally tries to match the type of weapon that her opponent has, if she has it - that way, she can change up her tactics if a certain weapon isn't working against an opponent.] Where do you want to meet?

Anywhere is fine with me. I usually just use the smithy yard or hit the forest or Battle Dome. [ She's...getting better at simulations. ]

Battle Dome it is, then. [It sounds like the best out of the options, at any rate.] I'll see you there. [Erza only knows how to set up the most basic of scenarios, but she thinks that they'll be able to figure out a set-up that works for sparring with other people as opposed to fighting simulations. ...Yeah, they're probably doomed.]

Now or later? [ They're definitely doomed. But they can look good in armour while being doomed. ]

Whatever works for you - I live nearby, so it wouldn't take long for me to get there.

Same here. I'll meet you there now, then.

A spar? [Oh it's that lady that seemed to know something about Plue.] Count me in! I could use a little action!

All right. Do you know where the barracks are? Or the Battle Dome?

I can find it. Let's try that Battle Dome place. [Because he'd rather not blow up the Barracks.]

Okay; if it helps, it's near the third Community Housing building. That's the building where I live, so it's certainly convenient for me to get to.

[No sooner does he get off the journal that he begins to get ready, hastily grabbing his sword and a bagel, stuffing the latter into his mouth, and then runs out the door, hopping on one leg down the hallway as he attempts to pull on his boot.

Heh... it's been a while since I last practiced with anyone else.

Well, you shouldn't have to worry about that here. What sort of weapon do you use?

A katana, though I'm capable of fighting with a broadsword too. And you?

I'm trained with a variety of melee weapons, mostly swords - I'll be able to use whatever you need me to.

I can handle any type of weapon. Choose whatever you feel most comfortable with.
